Tom Norman - Designer

This morning Arthur's dad, Tom, came in to talk to us about the design process in relation to both the Wearable Arts term and our passion projects.

Tom studied interior architecture and fits out shops, building and bars etc, the logos and branding as well as the shop interior. To get to the end product usually takes about a year! They begin with a 'brief' which describes the most important parts that are needed at the end. This needs to be super specific. Once you have a brief it is really important to come up with LOTS of ideas - if you have only one idea it never works. Lots of drawings and notes will help, they don't have to be finished or perfect, rough is fine.

The ARA building is one that Tom has worked on.

Tom also showed us their first sketches of their eco house that we visited last year. He enjoys using Sketch Up, a 3D design programme.

Draw, draw, draw!

Thank you Tom.
