First Year 5 Poetry Writing

I asked the little boy who cannot see,
"What is colour like?"

Maya
Red is like a raging fire
Tearing down the trees.
Yellow is like the heat that hits your face
On a hot day.
Green is like the unheard secrets
That the forest's trees whisper back to you.
Blue is the sound of waves
Crashing on the rocks.
Purple is when you sit at the window
Listening to the thunder.
White is like the thoughts rushing through your head
One by one.

Arya
Green is the colour of slimy seaweed
Lurking at the bottom of the ocean.
Blue is the colour of waterfalls
Rushing down the mountains.
Brown is the colour of wood
Being chopped at the lumber mill.
Black is the colour of a cat
Wandering through alleyways at midnight.
Orange is the colour of fireworks
Bursting in the sky.

Maniah
Red is like a raging fire
Burning down homes and nature.
Blue is like a calm river
Flowing through the mountains.
Green is the colour of the forest
Closing in on me.
Yellow is the hot blazing sun.
Purple is a storm rushing through cities.

Story of my name

What a great start we have had to 2019!

This afternoon we sent your children home with a sheet about their names and family history. Could you please sit down and go through this sheet with your child and return it to school on Thursday.

Thanks,
Alice and Tamara

Monday Afternoons

In Navigators Two on Monday afternoon, we immerse ourselves in the chaotic fun of STEM challenges.

Today our groups were challenged to use newspaper and tape to create some sort of contraption to get their whole group, joined together, from one end of our classroom to the other.

The collaboration, thinking skills and fun that developed were inspiring!

Influence

This morning we talked about our theme in Navigators Two - Influence, Building Better People Together.
We tried to define what Influence means together - it was tough!

  • To effect someone else's thoughts or actions
  • To do what good people do
  • "When you have to choose between being right and being kind, choose kind." Thanks Jack for the reminder
  • You are defined by your actions and thoughts
  • Simone talked about how we don't just influence others, but we also influence ourselves!
  • We have influenced ourselves and others already this morning by being brave and coming along excitedly to our new class
We chose three things that are really important to our class:
  • Freedom
  • Kind
  • Fun
Imagine if we can influence others and feel these three things in our class all the time!
