I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

This morning the Year 6s were inspired by Maya Angelou's famous poem. We talked about analogies and used some inspiring language.
Check out our work...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
Anika Tiller

The free bird soars on wings of hope
Touching the heights of the sky
He glides and sings in the light of dawn.

But the caged bird drops on the grave of dreams
A forlorn cage surrounds him.

The free bird glides through the rays of sun
His silver feathers shine
For he who lives on the freedom tree
Shall live without fear.

The caged bird sings a shallow song
As winds of hope flow by
Of he who dreams of having liberty
Shall live a long, hard life.

The Caged Bird's Song
Hugo Shields

The caged bird's wings
Brush solid bars
And trapped he is for now
Those things of want
Feed thoughts of rage trapped within that solid cage.

For mournful cries bring nought but lies
And words of hurt and harm
It's wings are clipped, its head is dipped
It has no control.

Liberty brings harm to thee,
Its hopeful head held high
Striding lightly the sun shines bright
Though from the light a shadow forms
Piercing tranquility and ruining the peace.

For mournful cries bring nought but lies
And words of hurt and harm
It's wings are clipped, its head is dipped
It has no control.

The Caged Bird
Van Cattaway

The caged bird sits alone
Not a soul to set him free
His only weapon his his voice.

Everything the bird does or says is isolated
The bird's feathers fall off as his hope dies
He only has a couple of feathers left
Everything around him is head and gone.

Then rays of light burst through the darkness
His feathers regrow
The cage falls apart
The bird flies away with hope.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
Leah Jones

As I glide upon liberty,
The wind chants my name
Currents guide me to a place I call home,
Darkness is long lost as I clam the sky my own.

A fog of darkness envelopes my mournful cries
I taste the salt of forlorn tears on the tip of my tongue
As I sing for liberty.

As light casts shadows on the forest floor
I stretch my wings to the sky
Looking over my home
Peace can be heard
As happiness overcomes me.

I Know Where the Encaged Bird Lies
Harvey Sanderson

Everything's lost but the spoken thought
Encaged in a world of nothingness
But the voice of disdainful feelings
Freedom so close but distant.

Distinct forlorn feelings collapse on all hope
The last hope in the sung prayer
Words hoping for the rusty key
To turn in the lock of rage.

Then the sound of wings in the cool breeze
As the free bird swoops
Tranquility surrounding the bird of freedom
Gliding across water
Then hearing the attractive voice of the encaged bird.

The free bird lands of the cage and joins the song.

Distinct forlorn feelings collapse on all hope
The last hope in the sung prayer
Words hoping for the rusty key
To turn in the lock of rage.

Then the free bird joins the song
Rays of light hit the bars, splitting
The caged bird is now a free bird.

The Caged Bird
Ben Coughlan

A bird with wings has the wind to ride on,
And a bird with wings has the sky to soar in.
A bird with wings has a tree to nest in,
As he flies across the horizon unaware of the disdainful eye trained on him.

A bird with clipped wings has only a cage to live in,
And a bird with blipped wings has no sky in which to soar.
A bird with clipped wings can only sit and wait for the grim reaper to greet him,
So he throws back his head and sings.

He sings of another life,
Of hope and love,
He sings of liberty and sings of loss.
His trill voice goes never unheard,
For the caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird's voice was left behind,
His world with nothing to mourn for.
But the caged bird has a mighty voice,
And so much loss to speak of,
So he throws back his head and sings.

He sings of another life,
Of hope and love,
He sings of liberty and sings of loss,
His trill voice goes never unheard,
For the caged bird sings of freedom.

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
Ashton Cozzone

The free bird sings while gliding over oceans and forlorn jungles
Its silver wings reflect through the thick dark sky
Shining for hope for birds.

The caged bird sings for hope
It sees its shadow on the outside of the cage
Sadness falls upon him
Drowning his hopes.

Harmful Freedom
Arthur Norman

The graceful swan glides
Through serene water
Caressing the surface
Living her freedom.

The juvenile goose watches the swan
With jealousy
As he is confined to the solitude of the riverbank
But when a white feather eddies down
A window of hope is revealed.

The goose conceals himself as he attempts freedom
But he is engulfed by feisty waters
And returned to his home.

Hope of the Caged Bird
AJ Williams

Birds of hope lie not in flight,
But encased in cages woven of nightmares
And still he dares to sing.

A song of untold joys,
Out of reach,
But hope has no boundaries.

The free bird's song tells not of hope,
But the winds of smooth sailing,
Nothing to gain,
All to lose,
As entrapment lies on the horizon.

Caged birds' songs tell nothing of prison,
But of wonderful life.

A song of untold joys,
Out of reach,
But hope has no boundaries.
