There is far too much to write about in a blog post, but we are sure your children have been talking non-stop about their time in Hanmer! From climbing hills, to mini golf, to hot pools and slides, to mountain biking, climbing trees and building bivouacs, to spending quality time with friends and eating delicious food, we all had a blast! Thank you to our amazing parents for making this time extra special.

Cub Activities
This weekend we had a number of students compete in a racing car challenge with their cub buddies. They were given a small piece of wood and four wheels with which to create the fastest vehicle possible.
Jack won the event and proudly showed off his medal and trophy.
Congratulations!

Act!
This morning our Year 6s read an old poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and we decided that the message was about taking the opportunity to ACT in our lives! We talked about Greta, the young girl from Sweden, who is encouraging students to make a difference to climate change.
Check out these inspiring poems.

Lego Masters
Today at lunchtime we were very well represented at the Year 5/6 Lego Masters. Each team had to build a vehicle and then a free choice option.
Check out some of the creations below.
Our winning team was Harvey, AJ, Jai, Connor - 3.5m! What a win!

Food for Thought
This morning Jessica, who is a nutritionist, came and talked to us about foods. We talked about everyday and occasional foods. We discussed vitamins and minerals and what we need for different things, like Vitamin C helps us fight of illnesses.

We know that Hugo needs lots of Calcium to help mend his bone.

Vitamin A helps out eyesight.
Vitamin B help to unlock energy inside out bodies.
Vitamin D comes from the sun and helps with strong bones.

Vitamin E helps our skin.
Fruits and veges are hopefully our favourite food group! We talked about the importance of eating five handfuls of fruits and veges each day.
Tomorrow we will talk about labelling before heading to the supermarket on Wednesday morning.

Year 5 Poets
This morning we were inspired by William Wordsworth's I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud. We talked about joy and feeling this when we are alone.
Maddox
As I stare into the distance
A bubble surrounds me
I feel calm and safe.
I float into the sky
And peer down
At the daffodils and trees.
A wide ocean appears below me
The sun spears through
Warmth and joy engulf me
My bubble pops
And I fall down,
Down to my future.

Greta
As I walk alone
Thoughts rush through my head
Waves dance in the ocean
Calling my name.
I look back,
At an endless trail of footsteps.
Joy chases away loneliness
Warmth and freedom envelope me.

Gabriela
As I stare into the distance,
I see grass fluttering and dancing in the breeze,
I feel freedom, serenity.
All my memories flash in front of me.
At last I listen to the inward eye,
Solitude guiding me to my future.
I will not back down
For I am my own leader.

Noah
I look upon the misty skies
Skeletal trees caressing my skin
As I see through my memories.
The sea envelopes me
Transferring me to the seabed
I am happy the way I am.

Maddy
As I walk in solitude
Thoughts swarm through my mind
I stare into the distance
Serenity envelopes me
Glee caresses my skin.
Leaves dance through the wind
My footsteps trail behind me
I step into an unknown land of hope
I am not lost, I am exploring,
My destiny awaits.

Maniah
As I look around
Forlorn trees envelope me in darkness
Suddenly a light appears
My heart stops
Calmness and solitude caress my skin.
Joy reaches out for me
I feel like I'm in another realm
A host of blossoms bloom and waves dance
I fill with joy,
My destiny awaits.
